For its therapeutic effects on the respiratory system thyme has been traditionally used to treat whooping cough, cold and flues. It loosens phlegm and relaxes the respiratory muscles as to allow coughing out, and thus alleviates the symptoms associated with conditions related to the respiratory system.
Thyme is also effective in the treatment of indigestion and diarrhea, improving bowel movements, and soothing irritated gastrointestinal tracts.
Preparation and usage:
For symptoms associated with the respiratory system - make an infusion from 50gr of thyme leaves for each liter of boiling water, cover head with towel and inhale the steam.
To improve bowel movements - make an infusion using one teaspoon thyme leaves for every cup, sweeten with honey, and allow it to steep for about three minutes before drinking.
