Flavonoids - ( Bioflavonoids)
What is it? (physiology and clinical effects) Flavonoids are a group
of plant pigment that give colors to fruits and flowers. They are powerful
antioxidants, help the body to deal with foreign compounds such as allergens and
viruses, act as metal chelators, and protect against cancer, heart disease and
strokes.
Clinically relevant conditions:
- Arthritis
- Bruising
- Cancer prevention
- Circulatory diseases
- Hemorrhoids
Food
Sources: There are more than 4,000 flavonoids present in fruits,
vegetables, spices, seeds, nuts, and plants. Fruits (especially apples,
blueberries, bilberries), vegetables (especially onions, parsley), soy products,
tea, wine (especially red wine), various herbs.
