Bromelain

What is it? (physiology and clinical effects)
Bromelain is a digestive enzyme, used to help break down proteins. It is also anti-inflammatory when taken on an empty stomach.

Clinically relevant conditions:
  1. Allergies / Sinusitis / Hay fever
  2. Asthma
  3. Angina
  4. Chronic pain
  5. Crohn's disease
  6. Indigestion / Heartburn / Flatulence
  7. Inflammation
  8. Joint pain / Lower-back pain
  9. Osteoarthritis / Rheumatoid arthritis
  10. Sprains,
  11. Surgery recovery / wounds.
Food Sources:
Bromelain is derived from pineapple stems.

Risk factors and symptoms of deficiency: (who is likely deficient)
Deficiency is unlikely.

Recommended dosage: (how much usually taken)
500 mg daily (with food for digestion, and away from food for inflammation)

Contraindications:(side effects / precautions / interactions / drug interactions)
Do not use if you are on blood-thinning medications.
